PostSubject: Jason Rothenberg Scripting Adaptation of 'The Twilight Zone'   Wed Oct 20, 2010 11:30 pm

We haven't heard anything about the big screen adaptation of the classic anthology TV series The Twilight Zone since Leonardo DiCaprio's Appian Way hired screenwriter Rand Ravich (The Astronaut's Wife) to script the project over a year ago. But now Deadline reports Jason Rothenberg is taking over writing duties for the big screen take on classic tales from Rod Serling. Details on the segments that might make up the feature are practically non-existent, but there's an entire library from which Rothenberg can choose. However, it's not clear whether this is just a simple rewrite or a page one overhaul on the entire script.

Of course, there's a chance that completely original segments could be written for the flick rather than simply recalling segments from the series which ran from 1959-1964. After all, I'm not sure we need another remake of the classic Nightmare at 20,000 Feet segment that was done so well in The Twilight Zone: The Movie from director George Miller. In addition to Miller's work, Steven Spielberg, John Landis and Joe Dante directed their own segments for the 1983 film.

As I mentioned in our story about The Outer Limits adaptation, a collection of "Twilight Zone" segments from today's best directors would be a dream come true. If we're going to do this right, I still say we get Edgar Wright, Guillermo del Toro, J.J. Abrams, Peter Jackson and Matt Reeves on the project. Who would you like to direct a segment in the new Twilight Zone
